Set includes 8 illustrated wooden lacing cards, 5 colorful laces and a wooden storage box with clear sliding lid. Helps promote hand/eye coordination, fine motor, cognitive and visual perception skills.
Great Product I got these lacing cards because I wanted to help my son with his fine motor skills. I've tried wooden beads but he never like them; he ended up throwing them away around the house. He adores these cards. He's very much into animals (and the illustrations are super cute), and he seems fascinated with this set. It's also a great challenge for him to make one after another. In addition he plays with them as if they were animal toys. They come in a wooden box for easy storage. I think this is a great and valuable educational toy; the quality is very good and worth the price.

Goodbye Kitty (Volume 1)
By Jay Mikael

Goodbye Kitty is an easy-to-read book about getting through the tough time that comes along when a family pet passes away. Written from the perspective of a young girl, Goodbye Kitty tells the story that no matter how bad things seem, with help from others, it can be easier to move past the death of a loved one.

About the Author Author Jay Mikael has spent the last twenty some years with his wife raising their three girls, who are now about to reach their college years. Mikael has worked and lived in his share of Midwestern states, including cities such as Omaha, Chicago, and St. Louis, as well as many other small towns along the way. He says that one of the most interesting positions he held during his career was with the five-and-dime store, F.W. Woolworth, which allowed his family a chance to see many new places. Mikael recently had one of life's "a-ha" moments when he noticed that his daughters started showing more interest in things other than family vacations. Having always liked writing, photography, and painting, paired with the additional time gained from no longer attending his daughter's dance lessons and the like, Mikael started to work on putting together ideas for children's books. Mikael hopes to have as much fun with the next chapter in his life as he has had with the last. So far it has all been a blast...
Moving tribute Goodbye Kitty is a moving tribute that will touch the heart of any child who has loved and lost a cat. I bought this book for my small grandchildren who will soon face the passing of their beloved Sadie. I know that this book will be an often read remembrance and celebration of Sadie's life.

Urine Off Stain & Odor Remover for Cats & Kittens
From Urine Off

Amazon Sales Rank: #74304 in Kitchen & Housewares Size: 16.9-fl oz. (500-ml) spray bottle Brand: Urine Off

This stuff really works! One of my cats, had a realy bad urinary tract infection and it was causing him to urinate outside of his litter box. The vet explained to me that this happens because the cat associates the pain while urinating with the litter box. He was trying to let me know he was sick and in doing so, sprayed one of my chairs in the living room, which had just been re-covered. I was at a trade show in NYC and I saw the booth for Urine Off-Stain and Odor Remover and they demonstrated it there. I was amazed at what I saw. Since they could not sell it to me there I ordered it from Amazon. It came quickly and I started to use it. It is EVERYTHING that they say it is. My chair is saved and my cat is feeling better. Urine Off has a pleasant scent and it got rid of the stain and odor. I even used a black light on the chair to confirm that the stain was gone and my nose confirmed that the smell was gone!!! This is a great product! Love it! Works great!! Completely eliminates cat pee and the smell of cats all together, you would never know 2 cats lived in my home. I don't really have a problem with them peeing outside of the box, but I do use it around the litter boxes, on my chairs, couch, and bed (all the places they jump on after they've been in their boxes)..any odor is gone within minutes. I love it :) Not great. I'm not impressed. There was little cat urine deposited on my carpet, not because my cat peed on it, but because their cat box was in a tight space and urine condensed on the carpet/wall. I did use a black light to see where the urine was, saturated the areas with the product and then rinsed and blotted up. After a second round, the carpet still smells like cat urine and chemicals instead of just cat urine. Also, where I used it on my wall it bubbled up some of the paint.

Afternoons with Puppy: Inspirations from a Therapist and His Animals
By Aubrey H. Fine, Cynthia J. Eisen

Afternoons with Puppy is a heartwarming account of dynamic relationships and outcomes involving a therapist, his therapy animals, and his patients over the course of almost two decades. It is a narrative of Dr. Fine's experiences and the growing respect for the power of the animals effect on his patients and himself.

Review Clinical psychologist Fine (The Handbook on Animal Assisted Therapy) and Eisen (literature, Nazareth Coll.) here collaborate on a book that is partly a treatise on the ways dogs, birds, and even lizards and fish can be used in therapeutic settings; partly a primer on the life lessons that animals teach; and partly a paean to Fine's pets. Fine sees his animals as "co-therapists" whose quiet presence and nonjudgmental demeanor make his patients comfortable, encourage them to confide, learn patience and self-control, and feel needed. The authors recount many heartwarming and heart-wrenching success that were initiated by Fine's birds and dogs, particularly Puppy, an abused golden retriever that he rehabilitated. Throughout, the writers expound on the virtues animals teach, e.g., "keeping life simple," "learning how to fail," and "shaking it off," which humans would do well to emulate. A good purchase for public libraries. --. About the Author Dr. Aubrey Fine, a clinical psychologist and a professor at California State Polytechnic University, is an internationally renowned expert on Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT). He is the editor of the classic book on the subject, the Handbook on Animal Assisted Therapy (2000) and has published other works in the areas of parent/child relationships, learning/attention disorders, and sports psychology. Cynthia J. Eisen teaches literature and mentors freshmen students at Nazareth College.
Memories Recently, I had the pleasure of reading Afternoons With Puppy by Dr. Aubrey Fine. I found it both entertaining and poignant. As a dog lover, it made me remember all the happy times I have had with my pets, but disconsolate at their passing. This is a book worth reading. Thanks Dr. Fine for helping old memories to resurface. Rudi Gomez Afternoons with Puppy What an inspiring book! Dr. Fine delights the readers with stories that demonstrate the compassion and intuition of animals in a therapeutic alliance with people in pain. The healing and growth that occurs as a result of the collaboration between Dr. Fine and his 'assistants' serve as a reminder to us all of the powerful positive impact of our four legged friends. afternoons with puppy Afternoons With Puppy leaves you feeling uplifted! Fine allows the readers to get a glimpse into how he incorporates the animals in his therepy. The stories in the book are truly heart wrenching. As I read the book you could see how important a role animals can play in our lives. So many lessons can be learned from them (which Fine helps us understand). The book is well written and should be read by all pet lovers!

The Last Deadly Mission
Directed by Olivier Marchal

OK cop melodrama. First of all: I didn't really like this movie, and I wanted to. Daniel Auteuil, the genre, a serial... But no, when I saw the clichés piling up it reminded me of another French tank policier which turned out to be pulp... yes, "36 Quai des Orfebrès". Luckily I hadn't found out on IMDb that they were issued by the same director. If "real life cop experience" makes you put a wife left in coma from "an accident", a child victim from a family murderer, who cries all the time (sometimes flooding) is herself a victim of a bad job, bad relationships with her boyfriend and sister, wait until you see his grandfather die (she sobs again), all her pregnancy, including two stressful events, then childbearing, on camera, long shots of her sweating, then the child's face on camera... What does it have to do with the story? Do we need this to elicit some automatic empathy for any character? If we want to watch a silly sick movie like "Mr. Holland's Opus", which can only resort to low blows because it has nothing to say, go ahead. But this film could have been good. It should have been great. It's a pity, Marchal's got a great CV as an actor (!) as well as a writer and director. I just don't like his way of "emotional blackmail", that the Argentine writer J. L. Borges wrote about 50 years ago. He liked the genre, I suspect he wouldn't like this tergiversation. I've just learned this is the last part of a trilogy, starting with "Gangsers" (2002), then followed by 36 Quai des Orfèvres (nothing to do with the 1947 movie, that was way more daring for its age). Any of the 3 has actors that would make any budding director dream: grouchy Gérard, André Dussollier, Anne Parillaud, Francis Renaud and Olivia Bonamy here. He is very believable (something of Madeleine R. IMDb readers?) . She could make a rock weep. Here she is given such lame material that it only hints at what she could do. Like the "motive" for her to want to track Charles Subra. "Ask him if he had changed". Come' on...! He killed her family, but did his time (= in jail) as a law abiding citizen, but now he's free, we secretly want him killed, and so does she. If not, why ask him with a dishonest kiss to "find him"? If everybody knows he's a loose cannon? But she's got to remain "purely good". Then, she's got to babble something ludicrous as her leitmotif? The problem is that it's the core of this bad movie. Ah, the cliché of "the woman who could be his daughter that puts some order and romance into a loner looser with addiction(s) isn't something you've seen a million times? Again, superb IMDb community of reviewers, help me out with names commenting this review, in your own, add a thread or something. I just don't want to write this review. The only scene I liked was the predictable dog accident with his sidekick. Schneider seems really angry, like if nothing he does could ever turn right. Auteuil has to overact all his other "anger scenes" so as to carry on with this boring film. Like the "botched And at the morgue" scene, the fight with Kovalski, his constant drunkenness, etc. At Quai he's also got to endure jail, unfair condemnation even from his family, bereavement (sounds familiar :)?). Even the filming style here of the melodramatic scenes is the same. In fact, that's what made me think I had seen the same film before... it was Quai :(! Music is good when playing the obsessive tune Schneider gets on his head. Kovalski gets the best line, the good if not superb: "cops are like family, we don't betray each other" (to the fat forensic/ photographer, smuggler). Now that I think about it, I'm surprised he didn't wind up dead. I also liked Subra's pretence of redemption, totally feigned convincingly, so much he fools Kovalski. Which is not so surprising given he fits the profile of the classic psychopath. Emmanuel Carrière in the book that originated the infinitely better "L'Adversaire" (also starring Auteuil) narrates how the true case of a guy who murdered basically all his family, including parents and in laws, even almost got rid of her lover too, all during a long period (not in a fit or rage or something), later in jail converted to extreme religious zeal. Sounds familiar, right? Catherine Marchal does a fine emphatic psychologist. Yes, she's smart and beautiful (her sleek attire and ultra stylish car does help), but doesn't she have the same surname as the director? Oh my. I liked the lighting. All the whites are too white, blinding. "Saturating" or whatever is the jargon for that. I suppose it follows some esthetical motivation, all I can say is it added some mysticism sorely wanting in the film. What I mean is, photography is probably the best this movie has. Even Subra in jail, washing or being put back into prison make you feel trapped, like if you were really there, grey walls, into constant "greyness". Watch this film, don't get me wrong. The ending is worth it. But don't harbour great expectations, and you won't be disappointed. Like most things in life, I guess :). Vengeance Is a Dish Best Served Cold Here's a great rental, so long as you like maudlin French movies. Daniel Auteuil is probably the most versatile French actor in the business, and has comfortably played billionaires, dapper detectives, and in farcical romps. In 'The Last Deadly Mission' he is a drunken detective staggering blearily through horrific crime scenes with the aid of his alcoholic crutch. The plot revolves around the usual batch of serial killer gore, corpses rudely posed, liberal spatterings of the claret, but the characters have far more elan than the standard Hollywoodland murder-fest. Maybe it's the cigarettes, those smoldering European glances veiled in wreathes of smoke sure fill the silences and seem to go rather well with entire bottles of liquor quaffed like ice tea. Well, the drunken de-badged detective succeeds, gets the bad guy, but the movie is far from over. The whole film is based on writer-director Olivier Marchal's experiences as a cop, and it is not until the end where we find out what Auteuil's character is running from, a wife in a coma on a respirator after an automobile accident, none of which we piece together until the closing frames. Interservice cop rivalries are played out with fists, love triangles form and dissolve, and the Chrysler product placement throughout is softened by Auteuil's crusty Volvo. A moody, gritty, French cop drama with a tough, uncompromising ending that also incorporates a beautiful birthing scene and the continuity of a new life.

Natures Miracle Litter Treatment 2lbs
From Natures Miracle

Easy to use, sprinkle in litter box. With natures enzymes to eliminate urine odors. Activates upon contact with wetness and continues to neutralize odors until they are gone. Extends the odor controlling life of any litter.

Another Quality Pet Product Nature's Miracle makes quality pet products with great reliability of performance. This Nature's Miracle Litter Treatment is no exception. I use this in my cat's litter box. It is all natural and blends well with the litter when the cat digs and covers after he is done. It eliminates urine odors effectively. I never smell any urine or urine residue at all. It should be noted that this product is designed primarily to eliminate urine odors. I can't speak for other types of droppings! I highly recommend this product. Best Cat Litter Box Deodorizer That I've Found! I have lived in a multi-cat household for my entire adult life, I am almost 64 years old, and I have been looking for decades for the perfect cat litter box odor remover. I finally found it: Nature's Miracle Litter Treatment. Everyone who comes into my home says that they can detect absolutely no litter box odor, nor can I, when I return from going somewhere. All that one has to do is to sprinkle a little over the top of the cat litter at least once or twice daily, every time one sifts the box. Nature's Miracle Litter Treatment does the rest and one does not have to worry about living in a house that smells like cat! Works great! Nature's Miracle Litter Treatment is a great product that reduces or eliminates litter box odor. We've got six cats and they definitely put it to the test. Before we discovered Nature's Miracle, the litter boxes would get very bad and we were constantly dumping out stinky litter and washing out the boxes. Now, we just scoop the box and add in a little sprinkle. The powder has a "fresh" smell that isn't strong or overpowering. It really eliminates the odors rather than just covering them up. Just a sprinkle eliminates odors for several days. When using non-clumping litter, it extends the life of the litter by up to a month. I'm not sure it extends the life of clumping litter, as the clumps get scooped out, but it definitely makes the smells around the litter box much more bearable.

OK but very smelly this product seems fairly well made but it smells terrible, like toxic. I have washed it twice and it still stinks. I am trying to air it out. I probably should have returned it right away but decided to try to desmell it. After 3 washings it still stunk and my husband complained of headaches...so we threw it away. unsatisfied My dog weighs 75lbs, about the size of the Golden in the picture, and the product ripped from its supports after just one week. She is a calm dog and the product did not undergo and undue abuse. Most of all, the smell is awful, even after rinsing and air drying. horrible!! It ripped apart within one week of using it. I need the company to contact me so I can get either a replacement or a refund.

All rights reserved. 1Animals in Our Lives"We will be known forever by the tracks we leave." -- Dakota Indian proverbFor my entire career as a professional psychic, people have come to me asking questions about everything in their lives -- their jobs, their families, their relationships, and their futures. But one question comes up time and again: What happens to my beloved pet when he dies? People want to be assured that their dog or cat or bird or horse -- creatures they love just as much as any human in their life -- will find peace in the afterlife.I am here to tell you that all pets do go to heaven. I will also explain to you the extraordinary abilities that pets have here on earth that we're just beginning to understand and acknowledge. These abilities lead us to amazing stories of the bonds between humans and the animals they love, experiences with animals both in this world and on the Other Side, which reaffirm the remarkable relationships we have with our precious pets.Since before recorded history, humankind has always had a relationship with animals, whether it was for sustenance, protection, worship, or to give service. Gradually over time many of the animals encountered by humans were domesticated and formed either a loving partnership with us as pets or were put into service to help humankind in its work or as a food source. We even see when animals are taken to visit the elderly how that person's blood pressure goes down and any depression subsides. I'm convinced animals can neutralize negative energy without ever absorbing it as we do. That's why I've even referred to them as a form of guardian angel on this planet. The stories that follow will show the different facets of what animals do and can do and how sentient they are. Whether it's just your dear pet and protectorate or your own totem (which we will get to later), we will see how animals have saved lives and even see and feel things that we cannot see or feel such as seeing spirits or alerting us to fire or even earthquakes long before we are aware of such things. Humankind has just begun to scratch the surface of the great intelligence our animals have, and hopefully you will get a deeper insight into the sometimes complex minds of our beloved friends in the animal kingdom. This book will explore through research as well as personal stories the help, bravery, love, and loyalty these wondrous creatures afford us.They are not dead who live in the hearts they leave behind. -- tuscaroraWhen We Lose a PetMost animal lovers have a pet, and those pets quickly become a part of their families. When a beloved pet passes away, a huge void is left in your family, not to mention your heart. It makes me furious when someone is grieving over the loss of a pet and they hear the words, "Well, after all it was only an animal!" When these words have been uttered to me, rather than froth at the mouth I usually try to simply walk away. As I've grown older I've tried to be more tolerant and say to myself that these people just don't know; they are simply ignorant of the love and richness that our pets lend to our lives. We will expand on the subject of pet loss later, but right now I want to tell you about my Jolie. Jolie was a West Highland terrier and the most active, funny, and caring dog I have ever known. She was one of my dearest pets, and I had her for nine wonderful years. One day I got a call at work that Jolie had suddenly keeled over and was nonresponsive. My youngest, psychic son, Chris, ran over and gave her some resuscitation by pushing on her rib cage, and by the time I got home she was sitting up, but with a glazed look on her face. I immediately noticed she was terribly bloated, and we raced her to the vet. After a whole battery of tests he told me grimly that the news wasn't good. Jolie was suffering from severe heart failure. He explained that the symptoms are similar to those experienced by people who have heart attacks or strokes. Jolie, he said, was filling up with water so fast she would drown in her own fluid. I had to put her to sleep. He suggested that I leave the room, but I wouldn't -- I wanted my eyes to be the last thing Jolie saw.The shot was administered, and I truly felt like she was saying, it's okay Mom, I'll see you again and I love you. "I love you Jolie," I sobbed. "Wait for me." I knew she would because animals don't reincarnate -- they don't have to. They don't need to learn lessons of life like we do. They are just pure entities sent from God. I watched a white and condensed smokelike form leave her body and go straight across the room. The souls of animals don't have to go up because heaven (or the Other Side) is on this level, just in another dimension, with the same topography we have here except for the beautiful gardens, meadows, and temples. (We'll talk more about the Other Side later in this book.) In my psychic vision I could see Jolie romping through a garden of daffodils and playing and meeting my other dogs that had gone before. This gave me some small comfort, but as with all grief I felt cheated. I was glad she was happy, but selfishly I wanted her with me. Still, I knew she was happy, and I knew I'd see her again someday. Our first teacher is our own heart. -- cheyenneThe hole our animals leave when they go is immeasurable, and even though life goes on (just as it does when any loved one leaves you), so many things remind you of them. No one meeting you at the door...the toys that are still around...even the empty food dishes seem like stark reminders of your missing friend. After Jolie passed, I just preferred to leave everything the way it was for awhile because honestly, I couldn't stand to get rid of the last vestiges of her. Yes, I did feel her around jumping on the bed and brushing against my leg, and several times I actually saw a little white blur in the backyard that I knew was my Jolie. But this loss hit me particularly hard, and I truly felt likejust going to bed.You don't, of course. You get up, you keep living your life, and when time goes by other dogs or pets take the place of your beloved pet. But no matter how much time goes by, that animal will always have a special place in your heart. Later on I'll share more of my own stories of pet love and loss, and you'll also read the remarkable stories of other people who have wondrous tales about their beloved pets, some poignant and sad, some inspiring in their bravery and protection, still others amazing tales of communication and love, but all of them truly moving andwondrous. When Our Pets Perform Extraordinary ActsPresently I have four dogs, but when I was younger I had cats. Both types of animals have their own distinct personalities and I love each of them in their own special way. I have had so many dogs in my seventy-two years of life that it's hard to even remember all of the breeds -- German shepherds, dachshunds, West Highland terriers, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Great Danes, Lhasa Apsos, Shar-Peis, Labradoodles, golden retrievers, Bijon Frises, Shih Tzus, English bulldogs, Labradors, Yorkshire terriers, not to mention a number of beloved mutts of mixed breeding -- each one holding a special place in my heart, and each one with a distinct personality of their own. I still have some of my beloved dogs, but over the years I have lost many pets that were dear to me. The truth is, many times I've loved my animals more than some people in my life! An animal's loyalty is unfaltering, and a pet doesn't care how you look or what mood you're in; they just love you unconditionally, which we could all really learn from!My dear grandmother (who was a psychic in her own right and very well known in Kansas City, Missouri) used to say if you find someone who doesn't like animals, children, or music...run. Over all the years I have found this to be usually true, especially with those who don't like animals. One amazing story my grandmother told me was an event her family witnessed secondhand, a tale that was told for years in their small community. My grandmother was born in Germany, but her family had made its way to the United States when she was very young, first to Texas and then to Springfield, Missouri, where the winters were horrendous. When I was a girl in that part of the world, we were literally snowbound for days at a time by the ferocity of winter storms (not anything like the milder winters experienced in that part of the world today, which as an aside supports the Greenhouse Theory!).There was a family that lived next door to my grandmother's family, and they stepped out just a short distance away from home to get supplies one cold winter day and left their sleeping baby with their German shepherd, who really was like a watchful nanny to the baby. They intended to be gone just a few minutes, but while they were gone a sudden terrible snowstorm hit. It was the type of storm we used to call a whiteout -- you literally couldn't see your hand in front of your face. After many hours the family finally made their way back to their house, and when they walked in, the baby's crib was empty. The house was freezing cold because the heat had dissipated in their absence. The German shepherd was cringing and whimpering under the bed. The husband in fear and dread deduced (as did the wife) that the dog had harmed the baby out of hunger or even fear of abandonment. The husband, out of his mind with grief, got his rifle and aimed it at the dog's head. Just as he cocked it to shoot they heard a faint cry. They looked under the bed and there was the baby cuddled up to the dog to keep it warm. The dog, realizing the peril of the baby possibly freezing to death, had lifted the baby and put it under the bed, wrapping its warm body around the child to keep it from freezing. My grandmother said the woman never quit talking about how horrible it would have been if they had killed the dog that saved their baby from freezing.Now...
Good but a rehash of her other books Overall, the book is interesting. I love Sylvia and have read most of her books. Some of the things I did not enjoy about it: the first 1/4 (approximately) of the book is a complete rehash of her other books. Also, it discusses at length pets in ancient times which I found not so interesting as it is common knowledge that everyone loves their pets, even ancient people. It did not relate to pets on the otherside. It seemed like it took quite a while to get to the "meat and potatoes" of the topic of pets on the OTHERSIDE. Sylvia also had a tendency to rely heavily on pet stories that readers submitted to her on her website. I guess I was hoping to hear more from Sylvia and not just her readers. Don't get me wrong, the book is still very enjoyable, especially if you have lost a beloved pet. I miss my pets and this book put me at ease and was a tear-jerker (in a good way). It would make a good gift for someone who misses a pet. Happy reading! A great read for animal lovers I enjoyed this book. I'm a huge fan of Sylvia Browne and her books. This book is a great read for all animal lovers & pet owners. Especially for pet owners who've unfortunately experienced the death of 1 or more of their beloved pets. I think all who read this book will find it comforting, and enjoyable. Wonderful, Comforting Book! Sylvia has done it again! I purchased this book after my 12 yr. old Shih-Tzu passed. Looking for answers, I found them in this book. Sylvia has such a natural way to explain the unexplained, I felt confident that my dearly loved pet is in a better place after I read this book. I would recommend this book to anyone who has lost a pet and is looking for answers to questions. This book warmed my heart!

Resku: A Celebration of the Rescued Dog and Those Who Rescue
By Diane Grindol, Ginny Tata-Phillips

A book of haiku poems and accompanying photos that celebrate those who rescue dogs. It includes tributes to individuals, organizations and happenstance that brings dogs needing homes together with their forever homes. Some of the poems are funny, many are poignant, and a few take the dog's point of view. Each poem is accompanied by a photo of an actual rescued dog.

About the Author Ginny Tata-Phillips has been a dog lover for 50 years; a dog owner for 40 and involved in dog-related businesses for 20. Ginny and her husband ran a successful doggy daycare center and boarding facility in California. The Tetra Encyclopedia of Koi
By Tetra Press

Top ten book for new Koi enthusiats. An excellent book which covers all aspects of sucessful Koi ownership. The book includes sections on building ponds from the simple pre-molded ponds to the concrete and flagstone wonders like most Koi owners can only dream of someday having. Also discussed, was selecting Koi, with good descriptions of desirable Koi characteristics. The book goes further to instruct new Koi owners on the importance of good water quality and good nutrition. Tetra food products are touted somewhat heavily though as you might guess. The sections on filter selection, construction and maintenance are top notch. A book I highly recommend. JE All books should have such a high standard - kudos to tetra Amazing. The only problem I had with this book is getting it out of my wife's hands. It covers EVERYTHING. Sections on Filtration, Pond design, Feeding (listing alternative foods that Koi enjoy), Anatomy (first rate), Selecting & showing your koi, a detail listing on the different patterns and scale formation and probably the best ( in my opinion) Parasites and Diseases, what they are, were they come from and how to destroy them. This could be and should be renamed to "The koi instruction manual". If you are a koi breeders, I highly recommend this book, after reading it, I would wager that it would be THE book to recommend to your customers. The reason being that they would have less problems and get better enjoyment out of their hobby. It truly would be hard to go wrong with this book. excellent resource excellent resource on Koi. A must have if you are raising these beautiful fish. Good practical information as well as nice photos to help you classify your Koi

Fi-Shock Electric Fence Protection for Gardens - Battery-Powered
From Fi-Shock

Complete fence kit contains everything you need except batteries to protect your garden from pets and other unwanted large or small animals. Includes 10 fence posts and 250 feet of wire. Battery power. 1-year limited warranty. U.S.A.
Amazon Sales Rank: #21786 in Home Improvement Brand: Fi-Shock Model: LMI95-SS2KX Dimensions: 9.10 pounds

It Works I only gave it 4 stars because the batteries have to be changed about every week and It isn't THAT easy to put together....We didn't use the flimsy poles we got some metal ones...But having said that after 4 weeks my plants are growing and nothing has eaten them yet...and we live in the country on 10 acres with all kinds of critters running around Works really well but takes set-up time I have had mine for about 3 years and it has finally given out. I liked it well enough that I am going to buy another. I have two german shepherds that like to run through my garden and this worked great. Only took one touch and since then just the little beep it makes was enough to keep them away. Feels similar to a strong static shock. It keeps out other critters, but possums can go under it. I am going to try putting the wires closer together again. It seems to go through batteries about one a month...not to bad. Much better than replacing my garden weekly. I do advise using stronger fence posts..the included pvc ones are not really strong enough. Wood or metal is fine. Buy it!

Bissell 82H1 Cleanview Helix Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner
From Bissell

Cleanview® Helix™ Bagless Upright Vacuuum. Maximum power to thoroughly clean your entire home.
Amazon Sales Rank: #392 in Kitchen & Housewares Color: Black Brand: Bissell Model: 82H1 Dimensions: 44.00" h x 15.00" w x 12.50" l, 19.50 pounds
Equipped with a 12 amp motor, this bagless upright vacuum cleaner provides maximum suction power for thoroughly cleaning the home from top to bottom. The unit effectively removes dust, dirt, and dry spills from both carpets and bare-floor surfaces, while its stretch hose and onboard attachments make above-floor cleaning a snap. Use the TurboBrush for upholstery and stairs, the crevice tool to access narrow spaces, the extension wand for extended reach, and the combination upholstery/dusting brush to clean tabletops, bookshelves, furniture, and more. Best of all, the unit's exclusive Helix dirt-separation system filters dirt and debris, protecting the motor and fan to ensure effective cleaning and long-lasting performance. The unit also offers a wide cleaning path, five adjustable-height options, dual-edge cleaning, a pre-motor filter, and a HEPA media post-motor filter. Its HEPA media filter traps over 99.9 percent of dust mites, pollens, and ragweed for cleaner, more breathable indoor air. Other highlights include an easy-empty dirt container, a soft bumper to protect furniture and baseboards from marking, a wide-beam headlight, a carrying handle, a stair-cleaning handle, a 27-foot power cord, and a quick-release cord wrap. The upright vacuum cleaner measures 12-1/2 by 15 by 44 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.
Great Vaccum with cool upholstery My 3 year old dirtdevil Vacuum cleaner gave up and I headed to the research room on Amazon to consider a replacement. After extensive research I zeroed in on this and Hoover 5507-900. Hoover was more expensive and did not have the tools and upholstery available on this Vacuum. I still had my doubts on Bissell hence I headed to Target to check the Vacuum myself. I was impressed with what I saw and I ordered this on Amazon. Out of the box this Vacuum was very easy to assemble and quite user friendly. The motor was very powerful and it cleaned the dirt from the carpet with ease. It also had adjustable knob for power variation and had one for bare-floor surfaces. The dirt container was very easy to replace and the extra dusting brush with extension wand made hard to reach places very easy to clean. Whats more this vacuum worked like charm on my Vacuum storage bags. It removed the air out of the bag in 30 seconds flat. I would definitely recommend this Vacuum cleaner who doesn't want to waste money on Hoover or even worst Dyson and still wants to keep clean. It passed the Black Sofa Test The vacuum just came in. I took it out of the box, and it took all of two minutes to assemble. I ran it over the rugs of my two-bedroom apartment and it picked up everything in its path. I noticed the tank needed to be dumped more than my Hoover Wind Tunnel, but it's a good trade-off, because once the bottom of the Wind Tunnel's tank got full, it just gave up. What I was really looking to give it--being a pet owner--was the extreme test on my black, cloth, sofa. Unlike other vacuum's that come with a nozzle surrounded by brushes that just seem to push the pet hair around, this comes with a turbo brush, which is like a mini version of the vacuum's main turbo brush. It cleaned off the sofa in minutes and left it spotless. I know it's new, so as to how it wears, I can't tell you. But, I normally can tell within a few minutes whether I've spent well, or spent bad. I would say this was money well spent. Best Vacuum Ever I have a carpet and a cat and this vacuum is amazing ive had more expensive but they do not compare to this vacuum. It is a little more bulky then most vacuums out now but i highly recommened this for anyone with pets

Wesley the Owl: The Remarkable Love Story of an Owl and His Girl
By Stacey O'Brien

On Valentine's Day 1985, biologist Stacey O'Brien first met a four-day-old baby barn owl -- a fateful encounter that would turn into an astonishing 19-year saga. With nerve damage in one wing, the owlet's ability to fly was forever compromised, and he had no hope of surviving on his own in the wild. O'Brien, a young assistant in the owl laboratory at Caltech, was immediately smitten, promising to care for the helpless owlet and give him a permanent home. Wesley the Owl is the funny, poignant story of their dramatic two decades together.

From Publishers Weekly Starred Review. Owls permeate literature and mythology, an ancient animal ("some 97 million years" old) that has fascinated for centuries; still, few people have had as intimate an encounter with the mysterious night birds as biologist O'Brien. As a student researcher at Caltech, she fell in love with an injured four-day-old barn owl and seized the opportunity to adopt him permanently. She named him Wesley, and for 19 years kept, cared for and studied him, forging a tremendous relationship with the still-wild animal, as well as a vast understanding of his abilities, instincts and habits: "He was my teacher, my companion, my child, my playmate, my reminder of God." Her heartwarming story is buttressed by lessons on owl folklore, temperament ("playful and inquisitive"), skills, and the brain structure that gives them some amazing abilities, like spotting a mouse "under three feet of snow by homing in on just the heartbeat." It also details her working life among fellow scientists, a serious personal health crisis, and the general ins and outs of working with animals. This memoir will captivate animal lovers and, though not necessarily for kids, should hold special appeal for Harry Potter fans who've always envied the boy wizard his Hedwig. Beautiful memoir Working as a student researcher at CalTech, Stacey O'Brien brought a four-day-old owlet home from the lab and named him Wesley. For the next nineteen years, he would be her constant companion and beloved friend. This is a beautiful memoir about the relationship that O'Brien and Wesley developed. O'Brien writes not only as Wesley's besotted owner, but also from the perspective of a biologist, which gives the book a depth and authority that a lot of "my beloved pet" stories lack. This book was fascinating, filled to the brim with exciting facts about owls, but also some very funny anecdotes - such as when Wesley decided that he wanted to learn to swim. It was a really moving, lovely book, and everyone I recommended it to has loved it. A tear jerker ... and much, much more Biologist Stacey O'Brien was working at an owl lab at CalTech in 1985 when a four-day-old baby barn owl with a permanently nerve damaged wing arrived at the lab. O'Brien promised to take care of the owlet, and this book is a journal of the 19 years (and 28,000 live mice) they spent together. O'Brien is a scientist and a humanist, and her book is a wonderful account of the relationship as seen from both points of view. For example, this extract is from the first chapter as it appears on the Simon and Schuster website: "Another attribute that makes owls unique is their brain structure, which is completely different from that of most vertebrates. The barn owl's cortex is mostly dedicated to processing sound rather than visual images. I wondered how that would affect the way the owl interacted with me and my visually oriented domestic world. He must have a very different viewpoint, foreign to us.... [It] would be challenging to learn to live with this nonsocial animal. Owls don't stay in flocks, but individuals are devoted to their mates, living a mostly solitary life together. "Not only are owls interesting creatures historically and physiologically, but their temperament is also unique. Owls are playful and inquisitive. A friend of mine knew someone who had rescued a little screech owl and she described it as acting like a kitten with wings. She said the owl would fly up, then pounce on all kinds of objects exactly as a kitten does. Owls could also be creative. Sometimes I'd be walking by an office in the Caltech Owl Lab and see an owl making up his own game -- throwing a pencil off a desk just to watch it fall and roll on the floor, then flying off the desk himself, twisting in the air to get a good angle, then pouncing on the pencil." O'Brien has promised to maintain a blog devoted to the book, to Wesley and his memory, and the growth in our understanding of animal intelligence: "The owl's brain is very complex and scientists are starting to realize that many species of birds are so highly intelligent that they rival the intelligence of apes and small children. The most famous of these birds is, of course, Alex the African Gray, may he rest in peace. Ravens and crows have been found to be toolmakers and problem solvers who do not even need trial and error to figure out solutions to problems. And, dare I say it, Wesley showed a similar level of intelligence. I'm looking forward to discussing these matters and many others in this blog." I'm looking forward to following along; her analysis of Bernd Heinrich's Mind of the Raven: Investigations and Adventures with Wolf-Birds is particularly fine. And she's not forgetting Wesley, of course. Neither will I. Robert C. Ross 2008 An eye opening and tender read. I can't add much to what the other reviewers have already said. If you're an animal lover of any stripe then Wesley the Owl is a book you'll want to spend some time with. Stacey O'Brien's love and affection for her friend Wesley comes out on every page. Animal friends have much to offer their human companions though I've never thought much about birds as pets that can actually offer companionship. That was my ignorance operating and Ms O'Brien has set me straight. Thank you Stacey. If you have children read Wesley to them and experience the book as a family. You won't regret it. Peace always

On Pets and Men
By Claude Lambert

These micro-stories are like a box of Belgian chocolates. Eat one at a time: each one has a different flavor. Most will make you smile, some will let you wonder. Bugs, flies, lizards, spiders, mice, birds, rabbits, cats, dogs, goats, boars and men are presented through the large lens of compassion.

Mutt-ologies I received this book as a gift, and I am finding it a light and charming read. More like browsing, really. The title would suggest a more limited scope. Lambert's purview is far reaching, though--it's sort of My Dog Tulip reimagined as a series of pensees by Barthes. Sure, like most self-published works, it could have benefited from more rigorous proofreading, but the author's insights to such varied topics as fast-food coffee, the deaths of the Rosenbergs, and 12th-century Chinese poetry reveal her to be a woman of the world, an empirical thinker, and a bit of an eccentric. In the span of 96 pages, Lambert ponders animal psychology (at one point wondering whether birds "like" to fly), dogs' perception of human speech, and the justification of anthropomorphism. I liked this book, primarily for its quirks. There is no sustained argument or narrative here, but if you enjoy intellectual provocation in small doses, this is the little book for you. Charming! What a charming little book. Guaranteed to bring a smile to all who read it. Her stories include moments of whimsey and wisdom. Read the stories in order or just flip to any page and enjoy the lyricism of this delightful writer. If you have ever marveled at the antics of animals, you will love this book. I am giving it to everyone for Christmas.

Karen Pryor i-Click Dog Training Clicker
From KPCT

Revolutionary in design and function the new i-Click was designed by the clicker trainers at KPCT to provide the next generation tool for clicker training. A quiet click. For classes or for sound sensitive animals it's the must have tool. And animals that have been trained with a classic box clicker completely understand the lighter sound of the new i-Click. The i-Click has been designed to let you click no matter how you happen to grab hold of it. Upside down click, sideways click, right side up click. You can click with your thumb, with your palm, even your foot. And is disabled friendly Drop it on the floor and it always lands in a clickable position. Click it with your foot! Strap it to a wheelchair and click with your palm or chin.

Too Quiet These clickers are very quiet. They're barely loud enough to use indoors but pretty much out of the question outside or from a distance. The only purpose I could see these serving is for working with a fearful, noise-sensitive dog. The StarMark clicker worked better for me. Easy to Click Great for cold hands and gloves. The button is raised so that you can squeeze it by making a fist, so that clumsy gloves are ok. No exposed plastic means that it's ok outdoors in winter. It's muffled, but my dog hears much better than I do, so he does respond to it from a distance.

Let every kid’s favorite clown fish, Nemo, provide your children with an interest in underwater life. The Tetra Finding Nemo Aquarium Cube includes a sea-blue-framed tank made from virtually unbreakable clear acrylic that holds 1.5 gallons of water. The Nemo figure fits inside, giving a beautiful view of the underwater environment. Air-powered Whisper 3-stage filtration with replaceable Bio Bags keep the aquarium clear and odor-free. Decorate the tank with built-in Easy Connect Plant Grid molded into the base. Low-voltage LED lighting gives you a bright look inside, while the included red and blue lenses provide interesting, eye-pleasing effects. Hide fish food and other supplies inside the integrated storage drawer. The Finding Nemo Aquarium Cube comes fully equipped for complete setup. An air pump, tubing, 2 filter cartridges, TetraCare brochure with samples, and a power converter are also included.
Very nice little tank I bought the Nemo for my son and the Ariel for my daughter. They both wanted a pet so we figured a fish would be the best for now. We saw these on the disney site (if you catch them at the right time of the month you can get it for half off the retail and cheaper shipping). Great little design, no leaks, filter is cute and relatively functional, however the air pump is not very stable and is prone to falling over and making a loud vibrating noise. It seems to want to follow the hose, so make sure you position the hose well. The tank includes almost everything you need, EXCEPT gravel. So, when your kids open it up looking for it, you will need to come up with a good excuse (or, after reading this review, buy it and have it ready). Food, water conditioner, decoration, lights, etc., are all included. Make sure to rinse everything very well. Be careful not to use any soap as the residue may kill anything you put into the tank. A good thorough rinse should do the trick. Then, try to fill the tank and let it run for a couple of days before adding a fish (we put one Beta in each tank and they are both doing very well). The acrylic is very clear, and the cover is VERY good for keeping toys, hands, etc., out of the tank. I did not give it five stars because of the pump and the lack of gravel. Even still, I would have given 4.5 stars if it were available, as the gravel is not such a big deal (don't forget to rinse it VERY, VERY well before adding it into the tank). Good first fish tank for the family. We bought this for my son's 3rd bday. He is a huge nemo fan. We opened the package and the tank was completely cracked. After reading the enclosed packing materials I finally figured out that we could take this back to the Pet Smart here in town. They were super helpful. They helped us determine that a BETA would do better in here than a goldfish. Goldfish need more space than this small (? 1.5 gallon) tank can provide. That was 3 + months ago and our "Nemo" is doing great.

my cat is always sleeping on it My cat is around 10 years old and only weighs 9 pounds. So, he is always in search of warm places. I think he has heat vision cause he can find warmth anywhere. I felt bad that he kept laying on top of the stereo to stay warm, so I got him this heated kitty pad. I got the outdoor version because he likes to chew on power cords. But, I use it in indoors. He sleeps on it for hours a day and seems to love it. The pad is a harder plastic material and I was expecting it to feel more like a padded seat. But, I put a soft t-shirt onit and it doesn't seem to bother him. Also, if you have the space, get the largest size of the several sizes they have available. I think the one I chose was too small for even a small cat. He can't really stetch out as much as I think he'd like to. Also, 102 degrees sounds really hot to me, but it is actually a comfortable temperature. Overall- my cat loves it and I'm glad I got it. Just get the biggest size they have available and plan on using a thin padding or getting Revival's padding so that it is softer but also transfers heat. Great for outdoor cats and ferals This heated kitty pad makes a great addition to a winter shelter for outdoor cats. I believe in keeping cats indoors, but if you love cats, you may find yourself dealing with someone else's outdoor cat, or maybe even ferals. I looked at a similar product at PetsMart but it was marked for indoor use only. The heating element of this kitty "pad" is inside an air-tight black casing that feels like thick plastic. The cord is 5 1/2 feet long, insulated and covered with a steel coil so that you don't have to worry about a critter chewing through it. The pad is big enough for one cat and luckily, it fit perfectly inside of the small igloo I set up on my back deck. The instructions say do not immerse in water, so the pad shouldn't be used in an open area, though I think it would do ok on a covered deck that stayed dry most of the time...and it makes sense to try to provide shelter against the elements for the cat's sake, anyway, so if you're providing a good, dry shelter for the cat, then the pad should be ok, too. I placed my igloo under a patio table, which I then covered with a waterproof tarp (using patio chairs covered in shower curtain liners as entryways), so the pad isn't exposed to any moisture at all. The kitty has used the igloo and the heating pad many days this winter - well worth the investment. By the way, if you order directly through the manufacturer's catalog, they make the heating pads in semi-circles specially sized to fit igloos...but this small cat pad fit in my igloo just fine. Great Peace of Mind for Your Outdoor Cats I purchased this pad for use in an outdoor feral cat house. I use it in combination with a thermocube so it turns on at 35 degrees and off at 45 degrees. I keep the pad, cord, and thermocube completely inside the cat house and run an outdoor extension cord to an outdoor outlet. This has worked perfectly and is so much easier than the microwaved heating disks that only last for a few hours and don't keep a mild consistent heat. Our outdoor kitty seems to love this arrangement too!

Great organic product! This is the only organic pumpkin I have been able to find on the market. Great quality and taste. Less water than non-organic pumpkin puree, so I do need to stir it in a seperate bowl before adding to my dry baking ingredients. We love this product! It's way better than any other canned pumpkin on the market I buy canned pumpkins regularly because my cat craves for them. Used to buy these from Whole Foods but somehow they stopped filling the racks. You just can't buy other kinds of canned pumpkin with this kind of quality. It's not watery, not sweetened, and no other ingredients added. For the dog I buy this to give to my dog. He needs to lose some weight, but he gets so hungry when I cut back on an already small amount of food. So, I add the pumpkin which helps make him feel full. It works!

Love my Havanese calendar Since we own a Havanese (Hoodsie), I thought it would be fun to give my daughter a Havanese calendar for her dorm room and, of course, I found such a thing on Amazon. I was absolutely delighted with the calendar that arrived. There are multiple photos of Havaneses on each page, submitted by their owners, and the overall effect is to perfectly capture the incredible personalities of these little dogs. Each page shows their energy, playfulness, intelligence, expressiveness and just plain cuteness. My response was to immediately order another calendar for my son! Anyone who loves Havanese dogs will love this calendar. What Havanese Forum members are saying! "My calendars came today. They are HUGE and the quality is top of the line. Stunning!!! Bravo to you. People, you will NOT be disappointed. This thing is gorgeous, and feels nice too. I'm in the "biz" and see a lot of shoddy printing, which this is the antithesis of bad printing. Ryan I'd buy you a drink if I could. Ladies and gentlemen, studs and bitches, BUY these calendars!!! They are worth every penny." Posted by: Amy and Posh "You really have to see this calendar to appreciate it. It's big, lots of photos, lots of room to write on the squares, and the quality is fabulous, certainly worth every penny!" I was so excited when I realized what it was that I started going crazy and Jackson was looking at me like I had lost my mind. When I opened it, I think he was expecting steak or chicken or something to fall out! You all did a terrific job . . . it is beautiful. I keep thumbing through it chuckling and oohing and aahing over all the cuties. What fun . . ." Posted by: Kathy and Jackson "WOW RYAN....The calendar is fabulous and thanks to all who helped make it happen!! The size is awesome and the pictures are gorgeous!! Buckley's Story
By Ingrid King

Buckley is diagnosed with heart disease after only two years of living with Ingrid, and caring for Buckley through her illness only deepens the bond between cat and human. Interspersed with well-researched information about cat health in general, and heart disease in particular, the author describes the challenges and rewards of managing illness in a feline companion, and ultimately helping her through the final transition. Ingrid shares both the day-to-day joys of living with a special cat as well as the profound grief that comes with losing a beloved animal companion.

Life lessons from a cat Reviewed by Olivera Baumgartner-Jackson for Reader Views (10/09) If you've ever had the great honor to share your life with a pet, "Buckley's Story: Lessons from a Feline Master Teacher" will not come as any surprise to you, but it will certainly make you shake your head in agreement and cause you to smile often, particularly when you'll reach some parts which will greatly remind you of your pet's habits. Animals could - and do! - teach us so much, if only we stop for long enough and truly listen to them. Buckley was a small cat with a huge personality and an even bigger heart. She entered Ms. King's life with a whisper, as the "office cat" in the veterinary hospital which was managed by Ms. King at the time. An extremely affectionate tortoiseshell cat, she became a constant companion who was very much missed when Ms. King decided to explore other career paths and left the hospital. After a couple of not immediately successful attempts to assimilate into Ms. King's household, Buckley finally came home for good. Amber, the "original" cat sharing Ms. King's home, had to adapt to the new situation, and she learned to share "her human" with another cat quite quickly. Sadly, Buckley was diagnosed with a heart condition after two years of her arrival into the new home, and the second half of the book deals with the treatments, challenges and final acceptance of the situation. The many moments of pure joy were always tainted with sadness over the inevitable final outcome of this situation, and Ms. King managed to capture the process of ultimate acceptance in incredible vivid detail. Warm, intelligent and wise, this is a beautiful book that will touch the hearts of animal lovers, particularly those who are grieving over the loss of their companions or who are living with the knowledge that their companions will not be able to share their lives with them for much longer. It shall also prove useful to anybody who might be thinking of adopting an older and possibly not so healthy animal, showing very clearly why that might be a particularly good choice. The detailed information on Buckley's diagnosis and treatment course, with clearly described challenges and rewards, might very well make some pet owners reconsider the path they are taking and make them realize that oftentimes we would do better to follow our instincts more and feel less obliged to blindly accept the mainstream information. And more than anything, "Buckley's Story: Lessons from a Feline Master Teacher" by Ingrid King should make you realize again how much we should and do learn from the animals who graciously share their love and life with us. Wonderful Read! Buckley's Story is not only the tale of a little cat who changed her human mommy's life forever, but is also a book loaded with information about cat health and heart disease. The narrative envelops the reader as they journey with Ingrid through the many medical decisions that have to be made while her heart is breaking over the possibility of losing her beloved little girl forever. However, Buckley proves to be so very much more than that frail little feline in a diseased and failing body. Little did Ingrid know that Buckley had much bigger plans in store for her -- an amazing future beyond her wildest dreams. And all this came about because of this amazing little tortie who stole Ingrid's heart the first moment they met. She had so much to give to Ingrid as well as others that she continues to do so today. Brings out every emotion inside you and will make you look at your cat in a whole new light! I just finished reading Buckley's Story. Wow! I must say that it made me feel things inside my soul that were waiting to come out. My emotions went from joy to love to pride to understanding to sorrow to spiritual acceptance. The way that Ingrid King describes and paints her picture of the story of this beautiful, lucky little cat is inspirational. I could feel her emotions as I read on. It certainly is a page turner, I read it on a flight from Florida to New York. I could not put it down. She made me appreciate the things that I have in my life and even though she says that Buckley taught her things about life, Buckley taught me things about life too and I've never met her, just by reading her story. I anguished with Ingrid as she tried to have Buckley fit into her life. I swelled with pride as she described how her cats waited for her at the top of the stairs when she came home. I read with joy as she described her life with her two adoring cats. I cried when Buckley got sick. I was happy when she got better. I don't want to give away too much so I will stop there. This is a wonderful book for any cat lover. They will truly understand and appreciate Buckely as I do. I would have loved to have known Buckley but by reading this wonderful book, I feel as if I do know Buckley. I certainly would like to thank her for the things that she taught me, but somehow, I think she knows!

Brand: PetSafe Model: PPA00-10985-PARENT

LOVE IT! We purchased this to replace our old, battered dog door. The difference is incredible! This dog door is well made and also looks nice. Basically it made our old dog door seem like an open window... the floor is much warmer now and so is the whole room. We have a german shepherd, boxer and mini poodle - the shepherd is on the larger side and had us a little worried she wouldn't fit through, but she did. Keep that in mind if you have a large dog, it says "up to 100 lbs" on the box. My shepherd is probably right around 100 lbs. Great door. Great door for our German Shepherd, virtually air tight. Easy installation, even for a novice do it yourselfer. Extreme Dog Door This is a great product. I live in TX and it keeps the heat / Cold / Wind from coming in the house unlike the other dog doors that have only one flap. This door needs a locking function! Its big so even my kids go through it. That would not stop a criminal! I am creating a bar that can attach to the screw holes to allow me to drop the bar accross the hole. This at least would make it harder for someone to squeeze through. Great price from Amazon and as always on time ship.
